The following message has been shared with BCC staff this week:
Birmingham City Council staff who are eligible for resident, worker, or fleet vehicle exemptions for the Clean Air Zone can be the first to apply.
Following the launch of the Government vehicle checker last week, a phased roll out of the exemption application process begins, starting internally.
Subject to meeting specific criteria, exemptions are available for:
• People who own a non-compliant vehicle and live within the Clean Air Zone.
• People who own a non-compliant vehicle, work at least 21 hours a week at a business premises within the Clean Air Zone and earn less than £30,000 a year.
• Community and school transport vehicles.
• Commercial vehicles.
When applying for exemptions, evidence will need to be provided to support applications, HR are working with the CAZ team to make this a simple process for employees.
There will also be a new employee car lease scheme, which will only offer new vehicles that are compliant with the Clean Air Zone criteria. The monthly payments will include all costs (insurance, servicing, roadside assistance etc), excluding fuel.
For more information, including a list of the required documents you need, visit the Climate Change and Clean Air Zone exemption pages on the intranet.
Once you have read the guidance, and you have checked that your vehicle is non-compliant, you will be able to apply for an exemption here.
