Due to Coronavirus and the way that Birmingham Children’s Trust’s role in supporting vulnerable families is having to adapt, the Trust has set up a freephone service which will operate Monday-Thursday 8.45-5.15 and Fridays 8.45-4.15 for vulnerable families.
With City Council buildings closing and Social Workers and Family Support workers only available on their mobile phones so not always immediately contactable the freephone line can provide vulnerable families and partner agencies a point of contact – only if they cannot contact the allocated worker during normal office hours.
The freephone service will be made up of Trust Social Work staff volunteers on a rota.
The service can provide:
- Advice and support – a way to get hold of the families worker.
- The call taker will operate a duty system and answer calls from families or professionals.
- The call handler to link the family or professional back in with the worker or the correct team.
- If the caller is distressed – the call taker will manage the situation and advice accordingly until they can connect the caller with their allocated worker.
The freephone service is NOT an alternative to CASS and professionals wishing to make referrals should follow the normal process for this via CASS.
The number to call for this freephone service is: 08081962288.
Outside or normal working hours, families and professionals should continue to contact EDT on 0121 675 4806.
