New Regional Courses

The Autumn program of courses has been released by the West Midlands region, all of which are free to UNISON members and can be found here. If you are interested in any of the courses simply go to the  website www.learninunisonwm.org.uk and once you have registered you can apply online (if you already have an account you can log in).

All courses are currently delivered online for safety due to the ongoing measures in place due to Covid-19.

Some of the courses are listed as full on the website, but you can contact with enquiries in case of cancellations etc.

Online Organising Steward (Morning)
4th November- 2nd December 2020 (5 Wednesday Mornings)
10am-12pm
This course will take you approximately 30 hours to complete so please set aside this time to finish the assigned tasks. As this is a recognised workplace representative role you are entitled by law to paid time off to do this course. If you need assistance with this please contact your Regional Organiser in the first instance.

Online Bereavement Awareness
4th November 2020
10:15am-12:45pm
This new online workshop is open to any UNISON member that wants to reflect on the grieving process and gain a greater understanding of current models that can help. It will also look at the impact of loss on families, individuals and the role communication can play.

Online Introduction to Family History (Afternoon)
5th November – 3rd December 2020 (5 Thursday afternoons)
13:15pm – 14:45pm
Are you a UNISON member that has always wanted to know more about your past but are not sure where to start? These 5 workshops will provide you with an introduction to researching family history and genealogy. It will look at the ever-increasing range of online family history resources and the skills required to navigate them accurately and efficiently.

Online Managing Stress 
10th November – 24th November 2020 (3 Tuesday Afternoons)
1:15pm – 14:45pm
These sessions will consider some of the main causes of stress in society. It will look at proven ways of coping with stress, strategies for not letting stress overwhelm a person and potentially harmful stress reduction strategies. A course cannot eradicate stress during stressful times, but you can learn how to manage it better.

Online Get That Job
10th November – 24th November 2020 (3 Tuesday Afternoons)
3:15pm – 4:45pm
This course will focus on the changes many of us are going through at work, particularly redundancy and the need to look for a new job. The course will cover, how to compile a CV, understanding and completing job application forms and preparing for a job interview.

Online Power to be You (Confidence Skills)
11th November – 25th November 2020 (3 Wednesday Afternoons)
13:15pm – 14:45pm
This course is aimed at UNISON members who want to find out more about improving their speaking skills and improving overall confidence. The course will cover, hints and tips to improve self-esteem, help with addressing self-confidence and assertiveness and tips on speaking with confidence.

Online Introduction to Excel and Spreadsheets
11th November – 25th November 2020 (3 Wednesday Mornings)
This course is aimed at those members that are interested in learning about basic spreadsheet features using Microsoft Excel. The course will cover, using simple functions like sum and average. simple formatting of cells, cell referencing, and how to create a bar chart and pie chart.

Online Introduction to Mindfulness
20th November 2020
13:15pm – 14:45pm
This session will focus on what mindfulness is and the benefits of practicing it regularly. It is a therapeutic technique that focuses on the individual being fully aware in the present moment. Benefits of mindfulness can be numerous to both physical and mental well-being, particularly reducing stress.
