UNISON will recommend rejection of employers pay offer

The National Joint Council (NJC) negotiates the annual pay claim and is made up of the employers side and a staff side of UNISON, UNITE and GMB members with UNISON having the majority of seats.

The UNISON NJC Committee members met Wednesday morning 24 May 2024 and considered the Employers’ offer of a flat rate increase of £1290 (pro rata for part-time and term time only workers), from 1 April 2024 (England, Wales and Northern Ireland).

The Committee agreed to hold a consultation of members on the offer. This will be held using the national digital consultative system, though branches will have the option to opt out and consult members separately. The consultation will run from 5 June until 28 June. The consultation will be held on the basis of recommending that members vote to reject the offer.

The Committee received a draft timetable for a potential industrial action ballot, depending on the outcome of the consultation. The Committee had some questions about the timetable and we will be pursuing these and communicating the timetable to branches and members in due course.
