Important UNISON Meeting – Pay Structure

Dear UNISON member, We are writing to invite you to join one of 3 sessions we are holding to discuss the Councils proposed new Pay and Grading Structure. UNISON has been asked to sign a Collective Agreement that would mean the new grading structure would apply to all employees in grades 1-5 who work for Birmingham City Council, Birmingham Childrens Trust and School staff working in Birmingham City Council controlled schools. Our Branch Committee, which is made up of all branch officers and all elected workplace stewards, has met and looked at the proposal and voted to go back to the Council to try to improve the structure for our members that are in grade 3.  Since the Council shared the new proposed structure we have been inundated with calls and emails from members in grade 3 posts unhappy with how the proposed structure affects them. The Council have chosen to deal with the job evaluation process and the pay structure separately.  Usually roles would be evaluated first and then based on the results a pay structure is drawn up.  This time the Council want to bring in a new pay structure before your roles have all been re-evaluated.  The meetings will discuss this but will be mainly about the pay structure, how it will affect you immediately, and the next steps.
